Perkins Investment Management is a private investment management company. The company was established by founder Robert Perkins in 1980 and is based out of Chicago with an additional office located in San Francisco. Perkins Investment Management was previous known as Perkins, Wolf, McDonnell and Company and currently operates as a subsidiary of Janus Capital Management LLC with the remaining ownership in the company split amongst various key executives. Perkins Investment Management conducts its research internally and utilizes a fundamental and quantitative analysis with a bottom up investment approach to make its asset allocation decisions. The company invests in various public equity markets on a global scale and invests in the value stocks of companies across all market caps. Perkins Investment Management invests most heavily in the finance sector, which alone makes up almost a third of its total asset allocations, and also invests in the health care, industrials, information technology, consumer staples, consumer discretionary, energy, and utilities and telecommunications sectors, among others to a lesser degree, in order of amount allocated. The company currently has approximately $12 billion in total assets under management spread across 160 accounts, all of which are discretionary accounts. Although its total number of accounts held has been going down in recent years, decreasing from over 2,300 accounts five years ago to its current amount today, its total assets under management has increased from $9 billion back in 2010. Perkins Investment Management caters to a wide client base, including individuals, the largest group that alone makes up over half of its clientele, high net worth individuals, pension and profit sharing plans, charities, investment companies, pooled investment vehicles, and corporations, among others, in order of decreasing clientele. The company currently offers a variety of mutual funds including its Global Value, International Value, Select Value, and Value Plus funds.
