All three breakdown charts allow the user to visualize several things about the company.

The income statement breakdown chart illustrates how the company makes its money, while the balance sheet breakdown chart breaks down the company’s assets, liabilities and stockholder’s equity. Likewise, the cashflow statement breakdown chart illustrates how the company generates cash flow.

How to interpret the balance sheet chart

The balance sheet breakdown chart starts with the company’s total assets in the center. The left side of the chart breaks down the company’s assets into current assets and long-term assets.

For example, Apple Inc. (AAPL) had $352.8 billion in total assets as of September 2022, including $135.4 billion in total current assets and $217.3 billion in total long-term assets.

The balance sheet breakdown chart further breaks down the company’s current and long-term assets: Current assets include cash, cash equivalents, marketable securities, accounts receivable and inventory. Long-term assets include property, plant and equipment, and investments and advances.

For banks, asset classes include cash and cash equivalents, net loans, securities and investments. For example, Bank of America Corp. (BAC) had $3.1 trillion in total assets as of December 2022, including approximately $1 trillion in net loans and $1 trillion in securities and investments.

The right side of the balance sheet breakdown chart illustrates the company’s total liabilities and stockholders’ equity. Current liabilities include deferred tax and revenue, short-term debt and capital lease obligation and accounts payable.

How to interpret the cashflow statement breakdown chart

The cashflow statement breakdown chart illustrates the company’s operating cash flows, investing cash flows and financing cash flows.

For example, Apple had $122.2 billion in operating cash flows during fiscal 2022. The company had investing outflows of $22.4 billion and financing outflows of $110.7 billion.

We encourage our users to add these new balance sheet breakdown charts and cashflow statement breakdown charts to their stock summary page dashboard. Along with the income statement breakdown chart, these new charts complete the company’s key financial statements.
