Wilmington Trust Co. is a banking, trust, and safe deposit company based out of its namesake headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware. The company was founded in 1903 by T. Coleman du Pont and was originally created to manage the fortune of the DuPont Family. Wilmington Trust Co. would move its headquarters into the DuPont Building in 1907 and have its first merger with the First National Bank and National Bank of Wilmington & Brandywine, making it then the largest bank on the East Coast. The company would continue to grow and become one of the founding members of the NASDAQ in 1971. The company would stay listed on the NASDAQ until 1999, when the firm decided to move its listing onto the New York Stock Exchange. Wilmington Trust Co. would merge with M&T Bank in 2011 and would become delisted from the NYSE. The company is currently headed by Chairman and CEO Mark J. Czarnecki and operates as a subsidiary of M&T Bank Corporation. Wilmington Trust Co. has over 2,500 employees and operates through three main segments: Regional Banking, servicing commercial clients in the Mid-Atlantic and consumers in Delaware; Corporate Client Services, providing a variety of services of institutional clients all over the world in 86 countries; Wealth Advisory Services, catering to the needs of wealthy clients in the United States and 35 other countries. The company is currently among the 20 largest independent commercial bank holding companies in the U.S. with almost $100 billion in assets with over $80 billion in total assets under management and $220 billion in assets under administration. Wilmington Trust Co. has locations in New York City, Los Angeles, Boston, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Atlanta, Baltimore, Beverly Hills, Palm Beach, Bethlehem, Charleston, and other domestic locations with international offices in Cayman Islands, Dublin, Frankfurt, Luxembourg, London, Netherlands, and the Channel Islands.
