Shinko Asset Management Co. is a private investment management company that is headquartered in Tokyo, providing investment trust, discretionary investment, and investment advisory businesses. The company can trace its history back to 1961, when the Ooi Securities Investment Trust Co., Ltd. was established. The company would grow and change its name into the Shinwako Investment Trust Co., Ltd. in 1969. In 1996, the firm would both be registered for investment advisory and licensed for investment discretionary businesses. The current company would be created out of a merger between Shinwako Investment Trust Co., Ltd. with Taiyo Investment Trust & Management Co., Ltd. However, the consolidated company, then known as Shinko Investment Trust Management Co., would not be known by its current name until it changed to Shinko Asset Management Co. in 2010. Shinko Asset Management tries to maintain a long term, stable, and highly transparent management through establishing an optimal risk management system and “outperforming the market through comprehensive economy and market research based on mid- and long-term perspective with thorough bottom-up approach.” The company is a part of the Investment Trusts Association, Japan and Japan Investment Advisers Association, operating out of a single location in Tokyo although it invests on a global scale. Shinko Asset Management has over 4.5 million yen in capital, having over 220 employees, with 24 portfolio managers, taking care of a total of 4.3 billion yen in assets under management. The majority of the company’s assets are invested in the equity investment trust, which has 3.4 billion yen, with approximately 900 billion yen invested in the bond investment trust. Shinko Asset Management Co. is currently lead by chairman Yoshiyuki Fukuda and CEO Shuichi Goto with major shareholders in the company being Mizuho subsidiaries including Mizuho Securities Co., Ltd., Mizuho Bank, Ltd., and Mizuho Securities Research & Consulting Co., Ltd.
