We are pleased to announce a new membership benefit for Premium Plus: historical financial data for delisted companies.

Background

According to Investopedia, delisting refers to the process of removing a company from the listed stock exchange. Companies can voluntarily ask to be delisted and “go private” if management believes privatization leads to “significant financial gain for shareholders and CEOs.” Companies can also be delisted if they violate the listing requirements for their stock exchange.

Privatization refers to the process where a private equity firm acquires all outstanding shares of a company that wishes to go private. Two major examples of privatization include Dell Inc. (DELISTED:DELL, Financial) and Neiman Marcus Group Inc. (DELISTED:NMG.A, Financial)(DELISTED:NMG.B, Financial).

On Oct. 29, 2013, Dell Computer CEO Michael Dell (Trades, Portfolio) announced the completion of the company’s privatization with Silver Lake Partners, a major tech private equity firm. According to the press release, Dell started an “exciting new chapter,” one that focuses on shaping the forces of cloud, big data, mobile and security that change the way customers think about the technological market.

Viewing financial data on delisted companies

You can view the historical financial data of delisted companies just as you would for NYSE and Nasdaq companies like Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT) and Apple Inc. (AAPL). For example, if you enter “DELL” in the search bar, you will see a drop-down menu like the one shown in Figure 1.

The 30-Year Financials and Interactive Chart features work for delisted companies just as they work for companies trading on the NYSE. The former presents the historical financial data as a grid of numbers while the latter allows you to create charts using the data. You can also download the financial data to Excel using the “XLS Download” button.

Only Premium Plus members can view delisted company data

GuruFocus offers two membership levels: Premium and Premium Plus. Premium offers access to features like the All-in-one Guru Screener and the Aggregated Portfolio of Gurus. Users can subscribe to eight different regions: USA, Canada, Europe, UK/Ireland, Asia, Latin America, Oceania and Africa.

The “Delisted Companies” do not belong to any of the above regions as they form our ninth subscription region. We have added “Delisted Companies” as part of our Premium Plus membership package, i.e., you can view financial information for all delisted companies if you upgrade to Premium Plus.

Other key Premium Plus benefits include backtesting data up to 2006, unlimited Excel Add-In queries and 20,000 API queries per month.

Disclosure: I do not have positions in the stocks mentioned.
