Meta (META, Financial), in collaboration with Booz Allen Hamilton (BAH), Nvidia (NVDA), and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), has announced the launch of the "Space Llama" AI project. This initiative is designed to assist astronauts aboard the International Space Station with their research activities in low Earth orbit.

The "Space Llama" project aims to reduce costs and computing power while improving the rapid response to maintenance issues or onboard anomalies. This will enable space research to be conducted without relying on internet connectivity from Earth.

The collaboration leverages Meta's open-source AI model, Llama, to enhance the efficiency and efficacy of space station operations. The focus is on optimizing the performance of technology in a space environment, ensuring that astronauts can carry out their tasks more effectively.
