U.S. President Donald Trump said in a Time Magazine interview that he expects to finalize a series of new trade agreements within the coming month. The interview, conducted April 22 and released on Friday, marks his 100th day in office.

“We're done in about three to four weeks,” Trump said, referencing the progress on trade deals. He claimed to have already negotiated 200 agreements and emphasized his intent to set equitable tariff rates for various countries.

Throughout the interview, Trump defended his administration's trade strategy, which has unsettled markets and led foreign delegations to seek direct discussions in Washington.

On China, the president's comments were less definitive. While Beijing has denied the existence of official negotiations, Trump said discussions are underway. “We're meeting with China. We're doing fine with everybody,” he noted.

Earlier in April, the president revealed new tariff increases but subsequently paused reciprocal tariffs for 90 days for over 75 countries seeking negotiations. A temporary 10% tariff remains active during this window.

Trump also dismissed claims that treasury secretary Scott Bessent and commerce secretary Howard Lutnick influenced the decision to delay tariffs, asserting the move was his own. “The bond market was jittery, but I wasn't,” he said.
