  • Amprius Technologies (AMPX, Financial) launched its high-energy 450 Wh/kg SiCore™ lithium-ion battery, with mass production capability imminent.
  • The new battery is tailored for aviation and electric mobility, offering up to 80% more energy than traditional lithium-ion cells.
  • Amprius is setting up a global manufacturing network to meet the demand, enhancing its ability to serve high-demand sectors like defense and electric aviation.

Amprius Technologies, Inc. (AMPX) announced the commercial launch of its SiCore™ 450 Wh/kg lithium-ion battery, marking a significant advancement in battery technology for aviation and electric mobility platforms. This latest offering from Amprius boasts the highest energy density in its class, positioned for mass production through Amprius' global manufacturing partnerships.

Built on Amprius' proprietary silicon anode material system, the SiCore battery offers up to 80% more energy compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries utilizing graphite anodes. This increased energy density translates into longer flight times and greater range, optimizing system-level performance for applications across aviation, defense, and electric mobility sectors.

Dr. Kang Sun, CEO of Amprius, highlighted the significance of this development, noting that the new SiCore cell combines the extreme performance of their SiMaxx platform with scalability compatible with existing lithium-ion battery production infrastructure. The cell design is optimized for extreme conditions, making it suitable for High-Altitude and Medium-Altitude Platform Stations, as well as unmanned aerial vehicles.

The company is actively building a manufacturing network with gigawatt-hour-scale capacity to address the high demand from aviation and defense sectors. UN38.3 certification for safe air transport is anticipated within the quarter, paving the way for commercial deployment and volume shipments shortly thereafter.

This innovation follows the introduction of the SiCore platform in January 2024, demonstrating Amprius’ commitment to delivering solutions that combine high energy and power. The company's ongoing efforts to secure contract manufacturing capabilities underscore its readiness to meet customer needs in diverse, high-demand applications.
