- 750,000 Takata airbags replaced in past 12 months; 5.7 million still require attention.
- CARFAX introduces new 'Recall Tracker' to enhance consumer safety awareness.
- Texas leads with 706,900 vehicles still having unrepaired defective airbags.
In the latest update concerning vehicle safety, CARFAX reports that despite the replacement of nearly 750,000 Takata airbags over the last year, approximately 5.7 million vehicles in the United States still have these potentially life-threatening airbags installed. This development highlights ongoing concerns over vehicle safety and the importance of consumer awareness regarding airbag recalls.
In an effort to address this issue, CARFAX has launched a new tool called 'Recall Tracker.' This monthly resource aims to spotlight urgent recalls, keeping consumers informed about potential risks such as bodily harm or even death, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The tracker seeks to empower consumers with knowledge and encourage prompt action on unresolved recalls.
Among the states, Texas leads with 706,900 unrepaired vehicles, followed by California with 631,440, and Florida with 270,140. However, progress is evident in states like California, Texas, New York, Illinois, and Florida, which reported the highest number of airbag replacements in the past year: 107,500, 80,800, 41,000, 40,800, and 35,200 respectively.
Consumers are encouraged to check if their vehicle has an unresolved recall by visiting carfax.com/recall or using the Carfax Car Care app. These tools provide timely reminders and alerts for recalls and necessary vehicle maintenance, promoting safety and proactive vehicle care.
