Stellantis N.V. (STLA) and Factorial Energy have announced the successful validation of their automotive-sized solid-state battery cells, marking a significant advancement in the development of next-generation electric vehicle batteries. These innovative batteries, utilizing Factorial’s FEST® (Factorial Electrolyte System Technology), exhibit an impressive energy density of 375Wh/kg, setting a new standard for solid-state battery performance.

The breakthrough FEST® technology allows for rapid charging, boosting battery levels from 15% to 90% in a mere 18 minutes at room temperature. Furthermore, the validated battery cells can operate efficiently in temperatures ranging from -30°C to 45°C (-22°F to 113°F), providing reliable performance across various climates. The cells also support high power demands with discharge rates up to 4C, enhancing performance for electric vehicles.

Stellantis intends to incorporate these advanced solid-state batteries into a demonstration fleet by 2026. This initiative aims to further evaluate the batteries in real-world conditions, moving one step closer to commercializing this promising technology. The collaboration between Stellantis and Factorial extends beyond cell development, focusing on optimizing battery pack architecture to improve vehicle integration, range, and cost efficiency.

This milestone is a testament to Stellantis’ $75 million investment in Factorial Energy in 2021, reflecting the strength of their ongoing strategic partnership. By leveraging this cutting-edge technology, Stellantis and Factorial are paving the way for more sustainable and cost-effective electric vehicle solutions.
