- PureCycle Technologies (PCT, Financial) successfully completes BOPP film trials in Germany.
- PureFive™ resin shows performance comparable to virgin polypropylene.
- The trials mark significant progress for recycled materials in flexible packaging.
PureCycle Technologies, Inc. (PCT), a pioneering company in plastic recycling, has announced a significant milestone in the use of its PureFive™ resin during BOPP (biaxially oriented polypropylene) film production trials. These trials were carried out by the renowned film equipment manufacturer Brückner Maschinenbau GmbH in Siegsdorf, Germany.
During these trials, PureFive™ resin was tested in blends containing 15% to 50% of recycled content, sourced from PureCycle's facility in Ironton, Ohio. The trials demonstrated that the recycled material could perform comparably to virgin polypropylene in numerous tests, with notable success in initial stretch tests. The promising results from these trials signify a notable step forward in the flexible packaging sector.
CEO Dustin Olson highlighted the importance of this development, stating, "Flexible packaging is one of the largest segments for polypropylene, and there is not a traditionally recycled material that can consistently meet the high purity demands required to make film." Olson emphasized PureCycle's commitment to offering a "single-pellet solution" that can seamlessly integrate into existing manufacturing processes as a direct replacement for virgin film production.
Brückner Maschinenbau's involvement as a trusted BOPP equipment manufacturer provides robust third-party validation of the material's performance. Additional stretch testing is scheduled for later this month to further validate and refine the product, paving the way for potential market expansion in food packaging, labeling, and adhesive tape applications.
