Chinese tech giants, including Alibaba (BABA, Financial), Tencent (TCEHY), and ByteDance, recently ordered around 1 million H20 chips from Nvidia (NVDA) with hopes of receiving them by the end of May. However, due to newly imposed U.S. export restrictions, delivery targets were not met.
The H20 GPU was specifically tailored for the Chinese market in an effort to adhere to U.S. export regulations. Despite this, Alibaba and other companies had already started strategizing last year in anticipation of potential limitations on their shipments.
