Meta has announced a series of new AI features for its Ray-Ban smart glasses, including a real-time translation function that supports multiple languages such as English, French, Italian, and Spanish. This feature allows users to download language packs and use the service offline, making it convenient for international travel.
Additionally, Meta is expanding the use of its AI to the European Union, enabling users to ask questions about their surroundings and receive real-time answers. The company also plans to integrate instant messaging features, allowing users to send and receive messages and make calls using Meta's Instagram as well as native iPhone and Android functions. Furthermore, the glasses will gradually support music subscription services like Apple Music.
Meta plans to introduce a "real-time AI conversation" feature in the U.S. and Canada, which will allow the AI to continuously interpret the user's environment and engage in more natural interactions.
The current Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, launched in September 2023, are priced between $299 and $379 and use Qualcomm's AR chip platform. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg hinted at the release of a third-generation product in 2025, with expectations for a display-equipped version to be unveiled at the upcoming Connect conference.
