XPeng (XPEV, Financial) was the standout in the electric vehicle space on Wednesday, climbing more than 9% after showcasing a wave of tech upgrades at the Shanghai Auto Show — and catching a bit of a tailwind from easing U.S.-China trade tensions.
The spotlight moment came with the debut of XPENG World Foundation Model — a next-gen AI system that's being billed as a major step forward in vehicle intelligence. The model, with 35 times the parameter count of standard vision-language-action systems, is designed to help EVs respond to unfamiliar, real-world driving situations on the fly. It's not just about cars either — the architecture is aimed at everything from robotics to flying vehicles.
XPeng also rolled out a new 5C Supercharging AI Battery. In the P7+ sedan, it can deliver 420 kilometers of range in just 10 minutes. Energy efficiency hit an industry high too, at 12.7kWh per 100 kilometers.
Another head-turner: the XPENG X9 MPV. It includes nearly 500 updates, including walk-through zero-gravity seats and built-in autonomous driving. The model already has over 6,000 confirmed orders since launch.
And then there's IRON — XPeng's humanoid robot. At 178 centimeters tall with natural movement and advanced dexterity, IRON showed off some serious skills, hinting at how far XPeng's ambitions stretch beyond the car market.
CEO He Xiaopeng said these innovations mark a shift in how XPeng sees itself — not just as an automaker, but as a driver of AI-powered mobility.
