- Port of Rotterdam supports Northern Graphite's (NGPHF, Financial) ambitious Baie-Comeau BAM facility in Quebec.
- The project aims to be a key part of a new transatlantic graphite supply chain.
- Potential sites include a 300-acre greenfield and a brownfield at a former paper mill.
Northern Graphite (NGPHF) has received a significant endorsement from the Port of Rotterdam, Europe's largest port, for its planned Battery Anode Material (BAM) facility in Baie-Comeau, Quebec. The port, recognized as a strategic hub for critical raw materials, sees the project as a cornerstone of a new transatlantic graphite supply chain.
The company is currently evaluating two potential sites for the BAM plant: a 300-acre greenfield site and a brownfield site located at a former paper mill. This initiative has garnered the support of local authorities, including the Port of Baie-Comeau, and Northern is actively pursuing power allocation and funding commitments for the feasibility phase of the project.
Once operational, the facility is set to become one of the first large-scale BAM plants outside Asia, targeting North American and European electric vehicle (EV) markets before 2030. Northern Graphite plans to source its feedstock from its Lac des Iles (LDI) mine in Quebec, along with projects in Namibia and Ontario, enhancing its strategic positioning within the EU's Critical Raw Materials Act as a Strategic Project.
This project is complemented by Northern's recent selection as a Strategic Project under the European Union's Critical Raw Materials Act and its membership in the European Advanced Carbon and Graphite Materials Association. These developments aim to strengthen Northern Graphite's role in advancing the energy transition and the graphite supply chain within Europe and North America.
