Sensata Technologies (ST) has announced that its High Voltage Distribution Units (HVDUs), which support megawatt charging, are now in production on heavy-duty electric trucks. These units are engineered to accommodate charging rates of up to 3 megawatts (MW) and battery capacities of up to 1 megawatt hour (MWh), meeting the demanding requirements of next-generation electric vehicles.
The HVDUs come equipped with a variety of in-house produced high-voltage components including fuses, contactors, Electric Vehicle Charge Controllers (EVCCs), Insulation Monitoring Devices (IMD), current sensors, and control electronics. Additionally, they incorporate systems such as liquid cooling, IP-rated enclosures, and optimized busbars and wiring to enhance performance and safety.
Sensata’s custom-designed HVDU product line comprises Power Distribution Units (PDU), Charge Units (CU), and Charge PDUs (CPDU), which seamlessly integrate charging and power distribution functions for heavy-duty commercial electric vehicles. These solutions are geared to efficiently distribute power to the battery during charging and from the battery to various vehicle systems during operation.
Sensata Technologies will be presenting these innovations at the upcoming Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo in booth 6811, held in Anaheim, California, from April 28-30. The company continues to push the boundaries of electrification technology, contributing to a more sustainable future for heavy vehicle applications.
