Consumers Energy has launched its first all-electric bucket truck in Grand Rapids, Michigan, marking a pivotal moment in the company's journey toward electric vehicle transformation. The zero-emissions truck, manufactured by International Motors and featuring an Altec boom, boasts a travel range of up to 135 miles on a full charge. It will be powered by a fast charger located at the company's Grand Rapids service center.
This initiative aligns with Consumers Energy's Reliability Roadmap, which aims to minimize both the frequency and duration of power outages. The electric bucket truck will be operated by a specially trained team to ensure reliable energy services for customers in the area.
Consumers Energy, which serves 6.8 million residents in Michigan's Lower Peninsula, has also been proactive in promoting electric vehicle adoption. The company offers support through its PowerMIDrive and PowerMIFleet programs, which provide rebates for home and public charging and assist businesses in electrifying their fleets.
This launch comes as part of the broader strategy by Consumers Energy to demonstrate the practicality and benefits of electric vehicles, from heavy-duty trucks to school buses, to its customers across Michigan.
