Gold Prices Decline After Reaching Record Highs

Spot gold prices fell by 1.25% to $3,381.26 per ounce, after reaching a new historical high of $3,500.10 earlier. Similarly, COMEX gold futures decreased by 1.06% to $3,389.00 per ounce, having also hit an intraday record of $3,509.90.

The Philadelphia Gold and Silver Index closed down 1.73% at 189.70 points. Within the index, NovaGold Resources saw a significant rise of 39.87%, while Freeport-McMoRan (FCX, Financial) gained 3.37%. However, other components failed to close higher. Harmony Gold dropped 3.9%, McEwen Mining fell 4.83%, Hecla Mining decreased 4.88%, New Gold declined 5.71%, and First Majestic Silver saw a 5.73% drop.
