Dow (DOW, Financial) and X-Energy Reactor Company have moved forward with plans for an innovative nuclear facility by submitting a construction permit application to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. This initiative aims to establish an advanced nuclear project in Seadrift, Texas.

The cutting-edge small modular reactor (SMR) project is being spearheaded by Long Mott Energy LLC, a subsidiary wholly owned by Dow. The facility is expected to supply Dow’s UCC1 Seadrift Operations manufacturing plant with dependable, safe, and eco-friendly power, along with industrial steam. This new setup is set to replace the existing energy and steam systems that are nearing the end of their operational life.

Support for this development comes from the U.S. Department of Energy's Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program. This program encourages the swift deployment of advanced reactors by fostering cost-sharing partnerships with the U.S. industry's key players.
