Elliott Becomes BP's Second Largest Shareholder with 5.006% Stake

According to a regulatory filing, activist hedge fund Elliott has acquired a 5.006% voting stake in BP (BP, Financial), surpassing the threshold for major shareholder reporting in the UK. This acquisition positions Elliott as BP's second-largest shareholder, following BlackRock's 9.2% stake and ahead of Vanguard's 4.95%, as per LSEG data. BP's current market valuation stands at approximately $76 billion.

Elliott's stake in BP is held through financial derivatives known as equity swaps. Previously, sources indicated that Elliott's holding was nearing the 5% mark.
