T-Mobile's (TMUS, Financial) prepaid division, Metro, has introduced four new plans with a five-year price lock, starting at just $25 per line per month. This strategic move aims to safeguard market share amid economic uncertainties and heightened competition. With prolonged inflation and concerns over potential economic downturns, consumers are becoming more budget-conscious. Competitors are ramping up promotions and bundling wireless with broadband services to attract customers.
Jon Freier, President of T-Mobile's Consumer Group, emphasized the company's commitment to offering affordable connectivity and appealing benefits. The new Metro plans, available from Thursday, include the "Metro Basic Plan" for a family of four at $25 per line per month, featuring basic services and 5G phones. The "Metro Basic Enhanced Plan" offers a fixed rate of $40 per month with special deals for two lines. Additional plans, "Metro Flexible Unlimited" and "Metro Flexible Unlimited Enhanced," cost $30 and $35 per line per month for four lines, respectively.
T-Mobile also unveiled two postpaid wireless plans, "Go5G Plus," with extra hotspot data and Starlink satellite service available until the end of the year. In related moves, Comcast launched a five-year price lock plan for its Xfinity internet at $55 per month, and Verizon announced a three-year price lock for its myPlan and myHome services.
