- PacBio (PACB, Financial) selected as technology partner by Davos Alzheimer's Collaborative for North African Dementia Registry project.
- Focus on Alzheimer's research in underrepresented North African populations, particularly in Egypt.
- Data generated will be available on the Alzheimer's Disease Data Initiative platform for global research access.
PacBio (PACB), a leader in advanced sequencing technology, has been selected by the Davos Alzheimer's Collaborative (DAC) as a technology partner for the North African Dementia Registry (NADR) project. This initiative aims to create a comprehensive multi-omics dataset to advance research on Alzheimer's disease and dementia in North African populations, with a particular focus on the vastly diverse genetic landscape of Egypt, home to over 110 million people.
The NADR represents the first dementia-focused registry of its kind in North Africa. Utilizing PacBio's high-quality long-read sequencing technology, the project will facilitate the collection of biosamples, conduct cognitive assessments, and perform digital phenotyping. The collaboration aims to address the underrepresentation of North African populations in Alzheimer's research.
Data generated through this collaborative effort will be made accessible via the Alzheimer's Disease Data Initiative (ADDI) platform. This controlled-access resource will enable researchers around the world to explore new insights into the genetic and environmental factors contributing to Alzheimer's disease and dementias, potentially guiding future research, prevention, and treatment strategies.
