In a significant trade move, the United States has imposed duties as high as 3,521% on solar panel imports from four Southeast Asian countries. This decision follows a year-long investigation that revealed solar manufacturers in Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Thailand were receiving unfair government subsidies. These subsidies allowed them to sell their solar exports to the U.S. at prices below production costs.
The new tariffs are expected to impact several publicly traded solar companies. Among those affected are First Solar (FSLR), Array Technologies (ARRY, Financial), Canadian Solar (CSIQ), and SunPower (SPWR), all of which have business interests in this region. This development could lead to significant price adjustments and strategy shifts as the companies navigate the heightened costs associated with these imports.
