Puna Bio, an agricultural technology company based in Argentina, has successfully concluded a new funding round led by Corteva, Inc. through its Corteva Catalyst platform. This strategic investment will bolster Puna Bio's offerings in biological solutions for regenerative agriculture, which leverage the power of extremophile organisms. These organisms contribute to the development of non-GMO seed treatments that significantly enhance soil productivity and health.
Puna Bio's innovative products, Kunza and Kanzama, are designed to promote nutrient uptake and stress tolerance while revitalizing degraded soils. These products have already been deployed across more than 800,000 acres, demonstrating consistent productivity increases of 10-15% in fertile soils, as well as restoring lands affected by acidity and salinity. This commercial success spans three seasons, underscoring the effectiveness of Puna Bio's solutions.
The latest investment will support Puna Bio's expansion into the United States, Brazil, and Paraguay, with the company having already gained traction in securing regulatory approvals and advancing commercialization efforts in these regions. This move aligns with the growing global demand for sustainable agricultural practices that minimize chemical inputs while maintaining or improving crop yields.
The funding round saw participation from existing investors At One Ventures, SP Ventures, SOSV, Builders VC, and new investor Dalus Capital, alongside Corteva. This collaboration with one of the world's leading agricultural technology entities reinforces Puna Bio's commitment to innovation and sustainability in agriculture.
"Our solution, based on ancient bacteria dating back 3.5 billion years, maximizes productivity and revitalizes soils," said Franco MartÃnez Levis, CEO and co-founder of Puna Bio. "With global agricultural lands facing degradation and increasing weather extremes, our platform ensures sustainable food production." Puna Bio continues to advance agricultural resilience, shaping a more sustainable future for global agriculture.
