- The 3-in-1 E-Powertrain achieves a 40% reduction in size and weight.
- Partnership with SinoTruk for heavy-duty E-powertrain development aims for production by 2027.
Garrett Motion Inc. (NASDAQ: GTX), a prominent automotive technology provider, is showcasing its latest advancements at Auto Shanghai 2025 from April 23 to May 2. The event marks the China debut of two groundbreaking technologies: the 3-in-1 E-Powertrain and the E-Cooling Compressor, which are poised to advance zero-emission mobility.
The 3-in-1 E-Powertrain integrates an electric motor, inverter, and reducer into a single unit, achieving a 40% reduction in both size and weight compared to industry standards. This innovation allows for reduced use of rare earth materials without sacrificing performance, thus improving packaging flexibility and extending the driving range for electric vehicles (EVs) and range-extended electric vehicles (REEVs).
Garrett has partnered with SinoTruk to co-develop a next-generation heavy-duty E-powertrain, with production expected to commence by 2027. This collaboration aims to address the fast-growing demand for high-efficiency electric platforms as global new energy vehicle (NEV) production is projected to reach 18 million units in 2024.
The E-Cooling Compressor, another key innovation presented at the event, utilizes high-speed centrifugal technology to provide superior battery and cabin cooling. This component is critical for the efficient operation and safety of EVs, and it supports multiple applications, including thermal systems for electric trucks and buses as well as heat pumps for high-performance electric passenger cars.
In the hybrid sector, Garrett is offering advanced turbocharging solutions for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and range-extended electric vehicles (REEVs), noting that 75% of China’s 5.86 million vehicle exports in 2024 were internal combustion engine (ICE)-powered. The market share of PHEVs and REEVs in China is anticipated to rival that of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) by 2030.
Garrett's technologies span across different fuel types, including the Gen 3 fuel cell compressors that have proven efficiency and reliability, supporting hydrogen mobility and offering flexible integration across various platforms.
By presenting these latest innovations, Garrett reaffirms its commitment to enhancing propulsion technologies across global mobility, from hybrid and full electric to hydrogen fuel cell systems.
