The U.S. Department of Justice announced that Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA, Financial) and its subsidiary have agreed to pay $300 million to resolve allegations of illegally filling millions of invalid opioid and other controlled substance prescriptions. The settlement addresses claims against the pharmacy chain for violating regulations related to controlled substances.
Additionally, the agreement includes a provision that if Walgreens is sold, merged, or transferred before the fiscal year 2032, the company will owe an extra $50 million to the United States.
