American Water (AWK), the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the United States, is highlighting National Work Zone Awareness Week, which runs from April 21 to 25, 2025. This annual campaign is focused on promoting safety for both workers and drivers in highway work zones.

Douglas Wagner, VP of Safety and Facilities, underscored the importance of driver attentiveness, as American Water teams and contractors frequently operate along roadways. The company emphasizes that safer driving practices are essential for protecting both workers and road users. "When you slow down and stay alert in work zones, you're helping protect lives, including your own," Wagner said.

As part of its commitment to infrastructure enhancement, American Water plans to invest between $40 billion and $42 billion over the next 10 years. These investments will cover upgrades and maintenance for water and wastewater infrastructure, ensuring reliable service for customers and communities.

American Water provides simple safety guidelines for navigating work zones: stay alert for flaggers, workers, and equipment; adhere to posted speed limits; and maintain at least a three-second braking distance from other vehicles.
