April 21 - Nvidia (NVDA, Financial) CEO Jensen Huang met with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Monday to call for increased electricity generation, citing the rising energy demands of artificial intelligence technologies.

Huang said Japan holds strong potential to become a key AI player, pointing to its expertise in robotics and industrial manufacturing. But he emphasized that creating intelligence at scale demands energy. "The country needs to build new infrastructure," Huang said after the meeting. "Energy is essential for all industrial growth."

The visit follows Huang's recent trip to Beijing, where he engaged with officials and business leaders amid fresh U.S. export restrictions on advanced chips. The new rules require Nvidia to obtain a license to sell its H20 chips to China, potentially putting $5.5 billion in revenue at risk.

A spokesperson for Nvidia declined to comment on the Japan discussions.

Huang's back-to-back visits to key Asian markets reflect Nvidia's strategic push to secure support and expand its AI footprint, even as regulatory hurdles mount in major economies.
