In observance of Good Friday, U.S. stock markets are closed, and trading on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) for precious metals, U.S. crude oil, forex, and stock index futures is paused for the day. The Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) has also halted trading for Brent crude oil futures. Regular trading will resume after the holiday.
European markets, including those in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and the UK, as well as markets in Australia and Hong Kong, are closed for both Good Friday and the following Monday. Good Friday and Easter are significant Christian holidays commemorating the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The dates for these holidays vary annually, as Easter is celebrated on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring equinox. In 2024, Easter falls on March 31 for Catholics and Protestants. Following the Good Friday closure, U.S. markets will continue normal operations until the next scheduled closure on May 26 for Memorial Day.
