Ameresco SUNEL Energy SA, a joint venture between Ameresco (AMRC, Financial) and the SUNEL Group, has signed €303.4 million in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts to develop three solar parks in southwestern Romania. These projects, with a combined capacity of 466 MWp, are part of Romania's strategy to phase out coal-based power generation by 2032.
The construction projects will integrate over 757,000 fixed-tilt solar modules, contributing significantly to energy efficiency and sustainability goals. The initiative is poised to bolster Romania's energy security and economic growth as part of its broader commitment to renewable energy.
Once operational, these solar parks are projected to offset approximately 734,789 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, aligning with Romania's and Europe's clean energy transition. Ameresco SUNEL Energy SA will oversee all aspects of the projects, including design, procurement, construction, commissioning, operation, and maintenance. The construction is expected to reach completion within the next 18 months, positioning Romania as a leader in renewable energy within the region.
