Internal sources report that Tesla (TSLA, Financial) has recently scaled down production targets for several Cybertruck lines. Some lines are operating at reduced capacity, and the Cybertruck production team has been cut by over half. Since January, some employees from Tesla's Texas Gigafactory have been reassigned to Model Y production lines, signaling a strategic shift.

Despite high pre-order numbers exceeding 1 million units as claimed by Elon Musk, Tesla has delivered fewer than 50,000 Cybertrucks according to a March announcement. In a bid to boost sales, Tesla introduced a more affordable rear-wheel-drive version priced at $69,990. However, overall sales have declined, with the first-quarter deliveries down 13% compared to the same period in 2024.

Tesla is facing increasing pressure from competitors with newer product lines, and its stock has dropped about 40% this year. The challenges with Cybertruck production are reminiscent of adjustments made in December 2024 when workers were informed of changes in production plans and surveyed about their job role preferences.
