Gulfstream Aerospace, a subsidiary of General Dynamics (GD, Financial), announced that its G800 business aircraft has successfully earned type certification from both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). This certification marks a significant milestone, introducing enhanced performance capabilities that surpass initial projections.

The G800 sets a new standard as the world's longest-range business aircraft, offering a remarkable range of 8,200 nautical miles at a cruising speed of Mach 0.85. This represents a 200 nautical mile improvement over the original estimates. Additionally, the aircraft can travel 7,000 nautical miles at Mach 0.90 and 8,000 nautical miles at Mach 0.87, with its maximum operating speed now increased to Mach 0.935.

The G800 further benefits from shorter takeoff and landing distances than initially announced, with a balanced field length of 5,812 feet and a landing distance of 3,105 feet under standard conditions. This improvement enhances airport accessibility, offering increased operational flexibility for potential buyers.

The aircraft boasts advanced cabin features, including the industry's lowest cabin altitude of 2,840 feet at an altitude of 41,000 feet, complemented by a 100% fresh air system, plasma ionization air purification, and 16 Gulfstream Panoramic Oval Windows. These features aim to enhance passenger comfort during long flights.

The G800's performance is attributed to its Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines and the Gulfstream-designed aerodynamic wing and winglet, further solidifying its competitive edge in the ultra-long-range business jet market. With these certifications, Gulfstream is poised for immediate customer deliveries in the U.S. and Europe, signaling the commencement of a new chapter for its aerospace operations.
