Progressive Insurance (PGR, Financial), the leading truck insurer in America, has announced the launch of Cargo Plus, a new endorsement that broadens its Motor Truck Cargo coverage. This initiative is designed to provide additional protection for for-hire truckers by addressing risks associated with wetness, rust, corrosion, driver error, and temperature changes, particularly for refrigerated loads.
The Cargo Plus endorsement is automatically included in new policies and is immediately accessible to existing customers with Motor Truck Cargo or Refrigeration Breakdown coverage. This enhancement aims to support truckers in safeguarding their cargo, which is crucial for securing loads with brokers and shippers.
Currently available in 42 states, including AK, AL, and TX, Progressive plans to extend the Cargo Plus coverage to 49 states by May 21, 2025, and achieve nationwide availability by the end of the year. However, Refrigeration Breakdown coverage remains unavailable in California and Florida.
Peter Niro, Truck Product Development Manager at Progressive, emphasized the company's commitment to offering comprehensive insurance solutions tailored to the needs of trucking customers. This latest development is part of Progressive’s strategy to cement its market position and provide superior service by enhancing cargo protection options.
