Duke Energy (DUK) is set to celebrate National Lineworker Appreciation Day on April 18, 2025. This day recognizes the critical role of lineworkers who ensure the reliability and safety of the power grid, particularly during challenging conditions.

In the wake of Hurricane Helene on September 26, 2024, Duke Energy's lineworkers were integral in restoring power to over 3.1 million customers across the Carolinas, Florida, and the Midwest. The historic recovery response involved 23,000 field personnel from 19 states and Canada, necessitating the replacement of 14,000 power poles and 9 million feet of wire.

The company currently employs over 10,000 lineworkers and technicians, including those specializing in substations and relays. These skilled workers are crucial as Duke Energy expands its grid infrastructure to support growing communities and businesses.

Since 2020, Duke Energy has committed more than $3.3 million in grants to 22 community college training programs aimed at developing skilled lineworkers, reflecting the increasing demand for such expertise. The company recognizes the vital role of these professionals in sustaining growth and improving infrastructure across its service areas.

Scott Batson, senior vice president and chief power grid officer for Duke Energy, highlighted the importance of line teams, stating, "Our trusted line teams' commitment to safety and excellence enables Duke Energy to meet current and future energy needs efficiently."

Apprentice lineworker Harrison Cochran shared his experience, expressing pride in their team's dedication to service and training new apprentices to ensure a robust power grid for the future.
