- Halliburton (HAL, Financial) and Nabors Industries (NBR) achieve a milestone in drilling automation in Oman.
- The collaboration integrated HAL's LOGIX™ and NBR's SmartROS® for fully automated drilling operations.
- The project improved drilling efficiency and earned the 2025 Digital Enabler of the Year Award.
Halliburton (HAL) and Nabors Industries (NBR) have reached a significant milestone in the Middle East by executing the first fully automated surface and subsurface rotary and slide drilling operations in Oman. This achievement integrates Halliburton's LOGIX™ automation and remote operations solutions with Nabors' SmartROS® rig operating system, setting a new standard in drilling automation technology.
The integrated solution delivered closed-loop, land-based drilling capabilities, improving operational efficiency, consistency, and real-time decision-making. As a result, wells were delivered ahead of schedule with a higher average rate of penetration and reduced non-productive time. This breakthrough has earned both companies the 2025 Digital Enabler of the Year Award, marking a significant advancement in automation technology within the region.
"We delivered operational efficiency, consistency, and reliability," stated Steve Haden, Senior Vice President, Project Management at Halliburton. "This milestone demonstrates our leadership in drilling automation."
Subodh Saxena, Senior Vice President of Canrig and Nabors Drilling Solutions, added, "The success we are seeing in Oman is a testament to the power of collaboration as we work together to drive automation across the industry to improve safety and efficiency. This is just the beginning, and we are excited to continue to push the boundaries of innovation to achieve autonomous drilling."
