Sony Interactive Entertainment (SONY) is set to implement price increases for its PlayStation 5 console in selected regions as part of its strategy to navigate ongoing economic pressures. The price adjustment will affect various markets, including Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Australia, and New Zealand, starting April 14.
In Europe, the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition will now retail for EUR 499.99. Meanwhile, in the United Kingdom, the same version will see its price rise to GBP 429.99. Over in Australia, the Standard PS5 featuring the Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will be priced at A$829.95, while the Digital Edition will cost A$749.95. For customers in New Zealand, the Standard PS5 will be available for NZD$949.95, and the Digital Edition for NZD$859.95.
It's important to note that these adjustments apply only to the regular PS5 models, while the recommended retail prices for the PS5 Pro remain unchanged. Additionally, Sony will be decreasing the price of the Disc Drive for the PS5, effective the same date as the console price changes.
These strategic pricing decisions are attributed to addressing economic factors such as high inflation and volatile exchange rates, which have posed significant challenges in these regions.
