Amcor (AMCR), a leader in responsible packaging solutions, has announced the completion of its new state-of-the-art coating facility in Selangor, Malaysia. This marks a significant milestone as the first facility in Asia to leverage air knife coating technology, providing healthcare packaging with high-quality, sterile options for the region.
The newly constructed facility expands Amcor's existing healthcare packaging plant, forming an integrated campus that positions Amcor as the first in Asia to manufacture both top and bottom substrates for medical device packaging. This integration is crucial in offering enhanced supply chain resilience and reducing lead times for its customers.
Equipped with advanced systems such as water-based coatings, online inspections, and the innovative air knife technology, the facility ensures precise and uniform coating applications. The air knife technology uses high-speed air streams to deliver consistent coating application, minimizing material waste and ensuring product reliability.
Chris Kenneally, President of Amcor Flexibles Asia Pacific, stated, "Amcor's investment in this facility reflects our ongoing commitment to support our customers across the Asia Pacific region. By introducing advanced coating technology, we are better positioned to meet the growing demand for reliable, sterile packaging solutions."
This facility is part of Amcor's broader strategic growth in the Asia Pacific region, following recent initiatives such as the acquisition of MDK in China, the establishment of a grid lacquer paper unit in India, and the development of a co-extrusion blown film and printing plant in Singapore. These efforts together enhance Amcor's ability to offer integrated packaging solutions, addressing critical supply chain needs while maintaining a commitment to sustainability and innovation.
