Dell Technologies (DELL, Financial) has reduced or eliminated discounts on many of its computer products in the U.S., indicating that consumers may face higher prices due to fluctuating tariff policies. An analysis of archived versions of Dell's website shows that the number of laptop discounts currently listed is the lowest since early 2024. Some desktop computer deals have also been removed.
For instance, an XPS 16 laptop previously had a $600 discount in March 2025 and significant discounts in December 2024. As of now, this discount has been canceled, raising the total price to approximately $3,050.
President Donald Trump's tariff policies have caused significant market volatility, raising concerns about a recession. This poses a severe threat to electronics manufacturers, who rely on global components and labor. Although Trump decided to pause tariff increases for most countries, causing a market rebound, Dell has not commented on the matter.
Dell's CFO, Yvonne McGill, stated in March that tariffs are considered a cost input, which may ultimately be passed on to consumers. While some discounts have been reduced, they have not been completely eliminated. For example, a Dell Inspiron laptop was priced at $250 after a $130 discount in March, but now costs $300.
