Lemonade (LMND, Financial) has identified a technical flaw in its car insurance quote system that resulted in certain sensitive data being improperly exposed. According to a regulatory filing, this issue involved the transmission of information between a user’s browser and the server during the quote generation process. Unfortunately, this data flow did not include Lemonade’s standard security protections, leading to the exposure of driver’s license numbers for roughly 190,000 individuals.

The company has assured that once the vulnerability was detected, necessary measures were promptly implemented to rectify the situation. Lemonade confirmed that its operations remained secure and there was no indication of customer data being specifically targeted. The incident is not deemed to be material in nature. In adherence to regulatory requirements, Lemonade plans to inform affected individuals and relevant regulatory bodies about the incident.
