NVIDIA Eyes Acquisition of Lepton AI to Boost Cloud and Enterprise Software Presence

NVIDIA (NVDA, Financial) is reportedly planning a significant acquisition in the AI and cloud computing space, targeting Lepton AI, a startup founded by former Alibaba Cloud VP, Jia Yangqing. Known as the "Father of Caffe" in the AI community, Jia established Lepton AI in 2023 after departing from Alibaba. The company focuses on renting NVIDIA GPU servers and developing software for startups to construct and manage their applications in the cloud.

Lepton AI successfully raised $11 million in an angel funding round in May 2023, marking a substantial start for the young company. NVIDIA's interest in Lepton is believed to be part of its strategy to expand its footprint in the cloud and enterprise software markets. This move positions NVIDIA to better compete with major cloud service providers like Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud.
