UPS (UPS, Financials) introduced a new international shipping service that provides full cost transparency to online shoppers by disclosing customs fees, taxes and duties at the point of purchase, the company said Wednesday.
The transportation company said that 43 nations now have UPS Global Checkout, which handles deliveries to more than 200 sites. Its artificial intelligence evaluates the contents of online shopping carts and computes relevant fees in real-time, changing for changes in international tax laws and tariffs.
The solution intends to remove unanticipated delivery fees—a frequent annoyance for overseas consumers—by including customs cost estimates right into the checkout process, UPS claims. The firm said it is the only worldwide integrated carrier now providing such a solution included in its shipping technology.
Survey data the corporation used indicated that 41% of consumers in the United States and the United Kingdom were deterred from finishing cross-border transactions if taxes and levies were not clear during checkout.
The new product joins previous UPS products meant to assist international e-commerce, such as UPS Export Assure, which automates export paperwork, and UPS Paperless Invoice, which removes paper-based forms.
