Alibaba Group has announced the launch of its AI flagship application, New Quark, which is based on Alibaba's leading Tongyi reasoning and multimodal large models. This upgrade transforms Quark into a borderless "AI Super Box" designed to provide a new experience for its 200 million users. Alibaba plans to integrate the latest developments from the Tongyi series models into Quark as soon as they are available.
New Quark aims to go beyond traditional search engines by becoming an all-in-one "AI Super Box" that fulfills various AI needs in work, study, and life. Unlike the mainstream AI product form, which is typically a chatbot, Quark seeks to integrate AI conversation, deep thinking, deep search, deep research, and deep execution into a simplified platform to meet all user demands.
Users can input commands into the "AI Super Box," and Quark's intelligent hub will automatically recognize intentions, organize them, and activate different models and agent modules to help complete tasks. Currently, New Quark can address and execute tasks in various scenarios, including AI search, writing, image generation, presentations, academic research, problem-solving, health Q&A, and travel planning.
Quark's CEO, Wu Jia, stated that the current upgrade is just the beginning. As model capabilities continue to evolve, they envision Quark's AI Super Box becoming a gateway to the AI world, similar to a "Doraemon pocket" for users.
In a recent earnings call, Alibaba Group CEO Wu Yongming highlighted plans to increase investment in AI over the next three years, focusing on AI and cloud computing infrastructure, foundational AI model platforms, AI-native applications, and the AI transformation of existing businesses. Alibaba has been making strides in foundational models and native applications, releasing globally leading open-source models such as Qwen2.5-VL, Qwen2.5-Max, Tongyi Wanxiang 2.1, and Qianwen QWQ-32B. Quark will be the first to integrate Alibaba's most advanced Tongyi models, offering users immediate access to world-leading AI capabilities.
According to the January 2025 AIGC RANK China AI Application Ranking, Quark averages 33.69 million daily active users, ranking first among Chinese AI applications. Market analysts believe the upgraded Quark is becoming a crucial entry point for users to experience the latest Tongyi Qianwen models, reinforcing Alibaba's "AI-driven" strategy and expanding its imaginative potential.
