According to a report by the Financial Times, a Japanese consortium is proposing a new plan to encourage Tesla (TSLA, Financial) to invest in Nissan. This initiative comes after the collapse of merger talks between Nissan and Honda. The consortium is led by former Tesla board member Hiro Mizuno and backed by former Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and his ex-aide Hiroto Izumi.

The group hopes Tesla will become a strategic investor in Nissan, believing Tesla is interested in acquiring Nissan's manufacturing plants in the United States. This move is seen as a potential opportunity for Tesla to expand its production capabilities.
