As Chinese competitors BYD and Huawei introduce advanced driver-assistance systems, Tesla (TSLA, Financial) investors are voicing their opinions on the company's pure vision approach. Ross Gerber, CEO of Gerber Kawasaki Wealth Management, highlighted a crucial technological difference in the autonomous driving race. He noted that while Tesla relies solely on cameras, major competitors are using LiDAR technology. This comment comes amid concerns about the limitations of Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) system, which is reportedly vulnerable to dust and sunlight.

Gary Black, managing partner of Future Fund LLC, stated that autonomous driving is becoming more commoditized and not a winner-takes-all market. He emphasized that their investment in Tesla is due to its position as a global leader in electric vehicles and potential benefits from unsupervised driving and Optimus, rather than expecting Tesla to dominate the ride-sharing market entirely.

The debate intensifies as BYD rolls out its "DiSus" advanced driver-assistance system across its product line, including the affordable Seagull hatchback. Meanwhile, Huawei's ADS 3.2 system has demonstrated impressive performance in complex urban environments, featuring high-definition map-free intelligent driving and comprehensive collision avoidance capabilities.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk continues to defend the company's pure vision approach, asserting that humans do not emit lasers from their eyes while driving. However, this stance is under scrutiny as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) investigates 2.6 million Tesla vehicles equipped with FSD technology.
