Apple (AAPL, Financial) has recently posted several job openings related to home robotics development, seeking experts in mechanical engineering, electronic engineering, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. Noted tech journalist Mark Gurman revealed in his latest column that Apple's development in home robotics is accelerating.
The robotics team at Apple is led by Vice President of Technology, Kevin Lynch, who has played pivotal roles in various significant projects at Apple, including the now-paused "Apple Car" project and integrating health tracking technology into the Apple Watch. In August 2024, the team recruited a group of technical experts from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology.
Apple's robotics team is working on at least two major projects. One project involves a mobile device that can intelligently follow users. Another project, announced in February 2025, is a desktop "smart lamp" resembling Pixar's iconic animated lamp. This device can interact with users through voice and gesture recognition and project tutorial videos.
Additionally, rumors suggest that Apple is developing a "smart home hub" to control various household systems, including security and environmental controls. These devices and accessories are expected to launch in late 2025, indicating Apple's efforts to build a more comprehensive smart home ecosystem with robotics as a key component.
The smart home market has been rapidly evolving, with several major tech companies, including Amazon and Tesla, announcing plans to introduce related products or services.
