Alibaba Group Holding has unveiled its latest artificial intelligence model, claiming it to be a global leader in performance. According to Alibaba Cloud's official communication, the upgraded Qwen2.5-Max model outperformed Meta Platforms Inc.'s Llama and DeepSeek's V3 in several evaluations.
Similar to Tencent Holdings and Baidu, Alibaba has heavily invested in the cloud services sector, actively recruiting AI developers to utilize its tools. The newly founded startup DeepSeek, established in Hangzhou just 20 months ago, has garnered international attention and appears to be Alibaba's main competitor.
Alibaba Cloud shared metrics indicating its AI model surpasses those of OpenAI and Anthropic. In recent months, cloud service providers like Alibaba and Tencent have reduced prices to attract more users. The entry of DeepSeek has intensified the pricing competition, while several promising AI startups in China have secured funding at unicorn valuations.
