Microsoft (MSFT, Financial) CEO Satya Nadella announced a $3 billion investment to expand the company's artificial intelligence and Azure cloud computing services in India. This move highlights India's significance as a key growth market for U.S. tech companies, given its population of over 1.4 billion and affordable internet access.

In recent months, other tech leaders, including NVIDIA's CEO Jensen Huang and Meta's chief AI scientist Yann LeCun, have also visited India. Nadella stated that this $3 billion investment marks Microsoft's largest single expansion in India. By 2030, the company aims to train 10 million AI professionals in the country.

During his visit to India, Nadella also met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss technology, innovation, and Microsoft's ambitious expansion and investment plans in the region. Last year, Nadella announced Microsoft's commitment to providing AI skills training to two million people in India by 2025, focusing on smaller cities and rural areas.

Globally, Microsoft is investing billions to expand its capacity, enhancing AI infrastructure and data center networks. The company recently unveiled plans to invest approximately $80 billion in fiscal year 2025, with more than half of the investment directed towards developing data centers in the U.S. to train AI models and deploy AI and cloud-based applications.
