NVIDIA (NVDA, Financial) has successfully acquired Israeli startup Run:ai, enhancing its software capabilities to optimize hardware usage for intelligent computing devices. The software from Run:ai, currently compatible only with NVIDIA systems, will be open source, allowing access for others to adapt it for competitor hardware. Run:ai aims to build on its achievements, expanding its talent and market reach. The open-source approach is set to broaden the software's availability across the AI ecosystem.

NVIDIA has become one of the world's most valuable companies, dominating the supply of critical data center components for AI services. Despite rapid growth from other chipmakers, none match NVIDIA's quarterly earnings from accelerator chip sales. News reports value the acquisition at $700 million, although NVIDIA has not commented on the transaction's value. This follows NVIDIA's $7 billion acquisition of Mellanox Technologies Ltd. in 2020. Since 2020, Run:ai has been a close partner of NVIDIA.
