TSMC Begins Semiconductor Mass Production in Kumamoto Plant

TSMC has commenced mass production at its first plant in Kumamoto, Japan. The plant focuses on producing 12 to 28-nanometer logic semiconductors, primarily for image sensors and the automotive industry. Key customers include Sony Group and Denso.

TSMC plans to construct a second plant east of the current facility. This new plant will produce advanced 6-nanometer semiconductors, with construction expected to begin in the first quarter of next year and production targeted for the end of 2027. The total investment for both plants is set at $22.5 billion.
