A licensing dispute between Arm Holdings and Qualcomm (QCOM, Financial) has been presented to a jury after closing arguments. The Delaware federal court jury is assessing whether Qualcomm or its acquired startup, Nuvia, violated licensing agreements with Arm, a UK-based IP provider. Qualcomm purchased Nuvia in 2021 for $1.4 billion. The jury deliberated for three and a half hours without reaching a verdict and will continue discussions.
This case, involving two major chipmakers, could significantly impact the tech industry, as many global tech companies rely on Arm and Qualcomm's licensed technology. The dispute might also affect Qualcomm's ambitions in the PC market, where its chips compete with Apple's and Intel's in speed. Qualcomm's legal team argued against any contract violations, while Arm's lawyers focused on whether the 2021 Nuvia acquisition breached agreements.
